What we thought of The Complete Introduction to Laser Racing
There are quite a few books about sailing Lasers available (see the links at the bottom of the page for some of the others), but Ben Tan’s book is right up there with the best of them. Like so many sailing books, this title looks a little – although not too – dated, as it was published in 2000. However, the ideas in it are very current, and the wide range of contributors makes each chapter highly relevant.
If you need information on anything to do with Laser racing then this book has something to help. It certainly fulfills its brief of being a ‘Complete Introduction’. On top of this, it has tons of information that will be useful to Laser sailors of all abilities, helping club racers improve up to national and perhaps even international standard.
One key feature we love about it is that, on top of the contributions from a range of experts, it is littered with quotes from top sailors throughout the years. Many of these little maxims are excellent for focusing the mind on what is really important to help make you a better sailor.
It is the kind of book that you will dip into many times over the years and it always has something new or interesting to offer. If you are a Laser sailor it is well worth getting your hands on a copy if you can find one at a reasonable price.
