I remember my first Sunfish North Americans. By some fluke I ended up with the leaders in one race and was following one of the class hotshots around a leeward mark. I didn’t know any better so I just followed a few inches behind his transom. I will never know if he slowed down deliberately but I do vividly recall how I plowed right into the back of his transom as we rounded.

After doing a 720 I was no longer up with the leaders. (But I did do well enough at that regatta to get invited to be part of the US team at the Sunfish Worlds the next year.)
